It’s always hard to know where to begin if you’re in the situation that you know you’re ready to meet someone and settle down, but you don’t know how to go about meeting them and getting started with the whole dating thing.
There are a lot of books out there to offer advice and picking the right book for you can be as much of a minefield as finding the right date! As with many things in life you may have a few false starts before get ting it right, but to help prevent you wasting time on those false starts we’re here to give you some guidance on finding the right book first time.
First of all you need to remember to be true to yourself and not choose a book full of techniques and advice for changing who you are to impress someone else. Ok, you want to put your best foot forward, but you shouldn’t need to change what is essentially you. Look for something that helps you enhance the positive aspects of who you are, gives you techniques to communicate what is great about you and why another person should want to meet up with you. A section with advice on how to write an online profile is a good idea; this is the first impression others will get of you, so you want to make sure you give a good reflection of yourself and what is most important to you. You’ll stand a much better chance of getting matched with dates that are suitable and may turn into a longer term relationship.
Here is a list of a few books we have found that may prove useful, but there are lots more out there so don’t be afraid to look for others if these don’t seem right for you:
- The Online Game by Derek Lamont
- 300 Creative Dates by Michael Webb
- Online Dating – Finding Love Online by Jennifer Hunt & Dan Baritchi
- Online Dating for Dummies by Judy Silverstein & Michael Lasky
And a slight different book but well worth a read if you’re considering internet dating is:
MatchDotBomb: A Midlife Journey Through Internet Dating by Francine Pappadis Friedman
Good luck and we hope you find the perfect match for you – book and date! |
